A peak under the umbrella

There are two things running through meg’s veins …

a desire for connection and devotion to rootedness, roots that run deep on the central coast.

It’s these qualities that became the soil that would grow Farmer & the Flea.

The name Megan Husbands written in script followed by the words "make it majestic"

I’m Megan — a massage therapist, skin therapist, AND dog therapist. After growing up in Goleta and spending several years in Santa Barbara I nestled into the eclectic beach town of Summerland, where I’ve lived and loved since 2014.

My desire for greater community was bolstered during the heartbreaking disasters of 2018—when residents were cut off for many weeks, and unable to get to their jobs or run errands, and neighbors had to rely on neighbors. The way people supported one another was beautiful. It warmed my heart. And it was in those moments that I felt the urge to cultivate that deeper connection within the community, to create something that kept those good vibes going well after the repair and healing began.

I pitched the concept of a combined monthly farmers and flea market at a local Summerland citizens meeting. Neighboring business owners joined in on the collective vision of bringing the funk back to Summerland and my sister, Hattie, was an integral force in visually shaping F&F. The first market was held in September of that year.

From its humble grassroots beginnings in Summerland, Farmer & the Flea now hosts over sixty five vendors in downtown Santa Barbara for members of the community to shop local, share their passions, connect with one another in new ways, and catch some majestic vibes.
